MINERS ARE ILLUMINATED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S LIGHTING. LONG WALL MINING IS RELATIVELY NEW IN THE U.S. AND IS MORE COSTLY, BUT ALLOWS ABOUT TWICE AS MUCH COAL TO BE TAKEN FROM A MINE.
