DescriptionSH-3H Sea King HS-6 with MAD in 1976.JPEG | A U.S. Navy Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King helicopter (BuNo 152124) from helicopter anti-submarine squadron HS-6 Indians, Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9), with AN/ASQ-81 magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) gear suspended below it, 21 January 1976. Visible below is a Knox-class frigate. This helicopter crashed into sea and sank while approaching the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43) on 22 August 1985. The HS-17 crew was rescued. |
