DescriptionSPAWAR Sponsors Lego Robotics Tournament 121104-N-UN340-022.jpg |
English: U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Patrick H. Brady, left, Commander, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR); Ms. Carmela Keeney, Technical Director, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) and SSC Pacific Command Master Chief Master Chief Logistics Specialist Diosdado Metra meet competitors prior to the start of the SPAWAR-sponsored For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) LEGO league robotics qualifying tournament at Eastlake High School. FIRST robotics competitions combine the excitement of sports with science and technology and create a unique opportunity for students to compete for scholarships while designing, building, and programming robots with professional engineers. More that 60 SPAWAR volunteers assisted in the event. As the Navy's Information Dominance systems command, SPAWAR supports and strongly encourages students to pursue careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
