西教寺の境内にある
この辞世の句は江戸時代に書かれた「明智軍記」に因るもので、山崎の合戦で敗れ、従士溝尾庄兵衛に託した時に伝えられたとしている。実際に明智光秀が詠んだのか現在でも議論されている。
大意は、修行の道は2つあるが、これら2つに非ず、実は1つの門である。即ち修行の道も実は1つで、人間の心の源に達する大道である。わが55年の人生の夢も醒（さ）めてみれば、全て一元に帰する、とあり明智光秀の哲学と教養を表わしている。
