ALICE COOKE, built by the Hall Brothers in 1891, was named for the three-year-old daughter of C.M. Cooke of the Hawaiian firm of Lewers & Cooke. First commanded by Capt. D.P. Penhallow, she traded steadily for the next 34 years between Hawaii and the Pacific Coast under the same owners. In 1926 she was sold by Lewers & Cooke, Ltd. of Honolulu for use by a Cordova salmon cannery. Destroyed by fire in mid-November 1931 while she was in use as a fish saltery at Cook Inlet, Alaska." "She was a 782-ton, four-mast schooner, capacity of 925,000 board feet of lumber. At time of launch, the vessel possessed all modern improvements including steam hoisting apparatus geared to windlass." (Source: White, Gary M. "Hall Brothers Shipbuilders." San Francisco: Arcadia, 2008)
