English: Saltpan Rocks Yellow lichen, the weathering and differential staining of underlying layers, green algae and blue water - the painted rocks of Saltpan. Only the name now remains to link this location with the presence of a saltpan once here - a site where salt was made by boiling-off sea-water in a large vat. It is recorded that this saltpan was owned by the Admiralty who would have used large amounts of salt for preserving meat on long ocean voyages. |
