Description
English: Soldiers stand next to salvage recovered from a battlefield near Bapaume, France. This includes helmets, kitbags, coats and rifles. The scene around them is one of devastation. The battlefield is muddy and strewn with debris.

One imagines that the soldiers would have found these items strewn around but they would also have had to salvage equipment from those who no longer had any use for it, the dead.
