English: A wide floral border with a dark blue ground divides the sampler in two. Above, alphabets, numerals and an inscription: Mary Green Her Sampler Made in the Eleventh Year of Her Age 1766 Below, a verse: Beauty and Pride We Often Find Betrays the weakness of the Mind He hansom [sic] is and merist prais [sic] That Handsom dos the proverb Says The loss of a father is great But the loss of a Mother is more But the loss of Christ is such a loss As no man can restore. Surrounded on four sides by a stylized strawberry vine border.
