Summary

Description

In 1930 Hub Products of Boston marketed an extract of Jamaica ginger adulterated with a plasticizer. A popular underclass alternative to alcohol during Prohibition, “ginger jake” was responsible for a crippling, lower neurological disorder that affected thousands. Shown here is the tainted product in wholesale (barrels) and retail containers, sampled by an investigator.
