Samuel A. Maple (1827-1880) was born in Iowa, the son of Jacob and Catherine Maple. Samuel and his father, Jacob Maple, arrived in Washington Territory in 1850 with the Collins Party. They were the first white settlers in what would become King County. The party settled on the banks of the Duwamish River. They filed claims to the land in September 1851. His siblings moved to the Washington Territory some years later, with the exception of his mother and two brothers. His younger sister Jane Maple married Henry Van Asselt. He remained a bachelor for the rest of his life. He died at the Cavavna house, Washington Territory in July 1880.
