Summary edit

Description

Science and Education Building, east front (facade) — at the Panama-California Exposition, Balboa Park, San Diego, California.

  • The front of the Science and Education or Science of Man Building, facing the Plaza the Panama, is different in style from the Prado facade of the building, and was designed to recall the Churriguesque as locally developed in Puebla, Mexico. The motive of the frontispiece is easily seen to be taken from that of the Church of San Francisco in Puebla, though modified to harmonize with the other buildings in the Plaza.
  • The important use of tile in the tower of this building is appropriate, Puebla being famous for its glazed and colored ceramics.
