Description

Le sirene-pesce con una sola coda sono universalmente note, cariche di erotismo dalla cintola in su, asessuate dalla cintola in giù. Le sirene bicaudate, rappresentate con le mani che divaricano in posa quasi ginecologica le due code-gambe, rappresentano in toto la sessualità femminile. Entrano spesso nelle rappresentazioni artistiche decorative delle cattedrali romaniche. Sui portali, sui capitelli delle colonne, nelle acquasantiere. Spariscono dalle decorazioni delle cattedrali nei secoli successivi, probabilmente per un più assiduo controllo dei committenti ecclesiastici. La sirena bicaudata entrerà poi tra gli stemmi distintivi usati dai tipografi.
