English: Founded in 1958 as Nu’uanu Gardens Funerary Home, Kyoto Gardens of Honolulu Memorial Park achieved its present name thanks to a donation from the city of Kyoto, Japan in 1966. The gardens feature multiple family gravesites clustered in a very tight formation owing to the compact size of the cemetery, with two columbariums that resemble the Kinkaku-ji Temple in Kyoto and Hokke-ji Temple Pagoda in Nara. The buildings and landscaped grounds at the cemetery are some of the finest examples of Japanese traditional building and landscape architecture in the United States, however, sadly, the cemetery has long struggled financially, leading to the two temples and the well-designed landscaping being neglected with deferred maintenance. Though not in pristine condition, the grounds of the cemetery and the two temple-like columbariums remain very impressive examples of traditional Japanese architecture.
