| Description | In sarcoidosis the granulomas are usually localized around bronchovascular bundles and fibrous septae whch contain the pulmonary lymphatics. Therefore, this distribution pattern is often referred to as "lymphatic localization" The explanation for this pattern of localization is that agents that trigger the formation of granulomas in sarcoidosis are minute substances that are inhaled into the periphery of the lung and then gain access to the lymphatic vessels in which they are are transported to the regional lymph nodes. Therefore, the granulomas tend to localize within and around lymphatic vessels. In this image the granulomas are localized around a bronchovascular bundle. |
