English: Satire belittling the increasing rights of African Americans following the Emancipation Proclamation depicting a white shoe shine boy shining a black dandy's shoes. On a street corner a boy deigns to shine the shoes of a well-dressed African American man as a carraige passes by. The boy tells his smiling white urchin friend who stands next to the dandy that he extends such civility because he needs the man's vote when he starts his political career. 8033.F.3
