Description
English: Built in 1922, this Tudor Revival-style building was designed by Bley and Lyman and Harry Williams to house the Saturn Club, a private social club. The building features a red flemish bond brick exterior with a side gable roof, stone trim and quoins, buttresses, picturesque asymmetrical massing, casement windows with leaded glass, a taller northern wing with a crenellated parapet at the base of the roof, a protruding front entrance bay with a front entry porch featuring a decorative stone surround with a gothic arch, stone relief featuring a carving of the planet Saturn above the center of the opening, and a relief of a ship at the base of the flagpole above the second-story window over the entry porch, a central front wing with a large bay window in the center, and a small south wing with a chimney on the side, with multiple wings stretching back into the block to the east, clad in half-timbering on the protruding sections on the upper floors of the north side, which ring a central courtyard. The structure was renovated in 2002, upgrading the athletic facilities and adding two squash courts. In 2014, another renovation updated finishes inside two major gathering and event spaces. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
