| Description |
English: Saughtree Station House (now that's what I call a train set) As we climbed the steep rough track to Saughtree Station we were amazed to see some track had been laid and as we approached the station we were astonished to see a shunting locomotive two flat goods trucks and a guards van. As I was taking photos a gentleman emerged from the station and asked if he could be of any assistance. We both commented on how impressed we were with the work he’d done and it was a complete surprise to see the station almost restored to its former glory not that Saughtree would have many glory days. We were in a middle of conversation about the Border Counties Railway when the owner asked if we would like a ride on his train. Needless to say we accepted so he instructed us to go the guard’s van and release the brake and we backed up the 200 yards to the east of the station where the line ended and then back to the station on his “ultimate train set”. We thanked him and went to put our boots on and headed towards Riccarton. Locomotive is Ruston 0-4-0 DM No.275882 'Meg of Saughtree', originally from Hull Oil Refinery. |
