English: A week before the Blender Conference this year, we visited a lunar regolith simulant lab in Germany to photoscan some fake moon dust. The idea is to create realistic PBR materials from these scans to aid researchers in training AI models for autonomous rover navigation... and also to share these textures for everyone for free on Poly Haven :)
Greg did a short presentation about this at the Blender Conference.
Deutsch: Eine Woche vor der diesjährigen Blender-Konferenz haben wir ein Labor für Mondregolith-Simulatoren in Deutschland besucht, um falschen Mondstaub zu scannen. Die Idee ist, aus diesen Scans realistische PBR-Materialien zu erstellen, um Forschern beim Training von KI-Modellen für die autonome Rover-Navigation zu helfen... und auch, um diese Texturen für alle kostenlos auf Poly Haven zu teilen :)
