Description

Scheveningen was in 1917 goed uitgerust voor een deugddoende strandvakantie. Nederland bleef neutraal in de Eerste Wereldoorlog, maar het blijft niettemin moeilijk te vatten dat nauwelijks 200 km naar het zuiden duizenden mensen omkwamen in de Vlaamse en Franse loopgrachten. Scheveningen (The Hague) was in 1917 already well equipped for beach holidays. The Netherlands managed to remain neutral in World War I, yet it's still difficult to believe that around this time, a mere 200 kms away, thousands were dying in the Flemish and French trenches.
