Description
Deutsch: Schiffsschnabel (Duala, Kamerun, 19. Jahrhundert). Die Duala, die in der Mündung des Flusses Wauri wohnen, standen schon in vorkolonialer Zeit in intensiven Kontakt zu Europäern. In der Kunst entstand so ein Mischstil. Die Schnitzer übernahmen europäische Schreinertechicken und bunte Ölfarben, in ihrem Formenschatz verschmolzen sie fremde und traditionell Elemente. Die Dreitheit der Farben Weiß-Rot-Schwarz spielen im Kult der Flußdämonen ein Rolle. Das Objekt wurde durch den deutschen Arzt Max Buchner 1884 aus dem Haus des Lokalherrschers Kum’a Mbape Bell (Lock Priso Bell) entwendet. Sein Nachfahre, Alexandre Kum'a Ndumbe III., fordert die Rückgabe.
