Description
English: Pillnitz Castle: the Riverside Palace (built between 1720 and 1721).
Deutsch: Schloss Pillnitz: Blick auf das 1720/21 erbaute Wasserpalais. August der Starke ließ Schloss Pillnitz ab 1720 im barocken Stil um- und ausbauen, nachdem er die Baumaßnahmen bereits 1718 geplant hatte. Die Pläne für den Umbau entwickelten Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann und Zacharias Longuelune. 1721 wurde das Wasserpalais in Form von drei getrennten Pavillons fertiggestellt. Im Jahre 1722 verband man die beiden Seitenpavillons durch Gänge mit dem Mittelpavillon. Die Dächer und Gesimse des Wasserpalais vermitteln einen chinesischen Eindruck. Die Verwendung solcher ostasiatischer und orientalischer Elemente, sog. Chinoiserien, erfreute sich in der Barockzeit einer hohen Beliebtheit.
