Description
Deutsch: Urach-Kirchheimer Vulkangebiet (Schwäbischer Vulkan). Der Vulkanismus war nur im Miozän (17-11 Mio. Jahre) aktiv. Fast alle Vulkanschlotreste gehören zum maarbildenden phreatomagmatischen Eruptionstyp, der keine Lava auswirft. Nur noch in wenigen Fällen sind Vulkane in der Landschaft leicht erkennbar. Durch geophysikalische Messmethoden konnte bis 1974 die Zahl der registrierten Eruptionspunkte nahezu verdoppelt werden. Es sind 355 Eruptionspunkte bekannt (Stand: 2015).

English: So called „Schwäbischer Vulkan“ (Swabian volcano) of the „Urach-Kirchheimer Vulkangebiet“. The 355 eruption points were active in Miocene only (17-11 Mill. years). Except for a few of the diatremes all belong to the phreatomagmatic eruption type, which does not produce lava. After this long time only very few volcanoes still shape the landscape. With geophysical measuring methods the number of eruption points was almost doubled by 1974.
