Summary
editLe roi Salomon (précédemment identifié à Clovis[1]), église Notre-Dame de Corbeil.
- Original
- Translation
... There are still two statues in the abbey church of Saint-Denis transported by Alexandre Lenoir in the Museum of French Monuments from the church of Notre-Dame de Corbeil; both figures, christened with the names Clovis and Clotilde, without authority, are from the same period as those of the western portal of Chartres. Long like those others, executed with extreme care, remarkable moreover in style, very interesting in terms of clothing, made with great finesse, they provide the kind of heads that are in no way reminiscent of those of Chartres. Here (Fig. 8) that of the king. This mask is not the reproduction of an accepted type, a canonical one, but, for those who know how to look, a portrait or rather a type of a race, an individual par excellence ...
