Description
Médecin et représentant du Peuple, le citoyen Beauvais, député à la Convention, vote la mort du roi en 1793. Il est ensuite envoyé en mission à Marseille et Toulon pour s'assurer de la loyauté de ces villes à la Révolution. Emprisonné lors du soulèvement de Toulon, il est libéré par Bonaparte, mais, malade, ne peut regagner Paris et il meurt d'épuisement à Montpellier. Pajou réalise ce buste à partir de son masque mortuaire et l'envoie à la Convention dans le but de réaliser un marbre en l'honneur de ce "Martyr de la Révolution", projet qui ne vit jamais le jour.
