DescriptionSeattle - 1916 landslide near Duwamish Head.gif |
English: Aftermath of February 1916 landslide near West Seattle shore, somewhere near Duwamish Head. Seattle Municipal Archives says "On the 800 block of Alki Avenue"; probably that was the address at the time, but this is now Harbor Ave SW, Alki Ave doesn't begin until you round the head. Item 907, Engineering Department Photographic Negatives (Record Series 2613-07), Seattle Municipal Archives.West Seattle Machine Works, visible at upper left of photo, is described in the 1916 Polk's Directory as located "Alki Av[enue], [at the] f[oo]t [of] Maryland Place", which puts it at the present site of Hamilton Viewpoint Park. So this is looking out on to Elliott Bay toward downtown, and all of the development on the water side is gone. |
