Summary edit
DescriptionSeattle monorail in 1987 - temporarily cut back to Stewart St during 1986-88 realignment project.jpg | The temporary downtown terminal station of the Seattle Center Monorail in 1987, on 5th Avenue just north of Stewart Street, during work to realign the southernmost section of the monorail line to follow 5th Avenue (instead of Westlake Mall) south of Olive Way. This station replaced the monorail's longtime downtown station that was located over Pine Street and closed on September 1, 1986. A new section of monorail guideway was built in the foreground area in 1988, leading to a new, permanent replacement station at the then-new Westlake Center, which section was ready for testing by fall 1988 but did not open for service until February 1989. This view is from across Olive Way. The Westin Seattle hotel is at right, and the Space Needle is in the distance. |
