Description |
English: Starting in the late 19th century, trade with Asia grew to be an important part of Seattle's economy. By the 1920s the waterfront was crowded with piers, railroad tracks, and warehouses. A roadway had been built to keep the increasing car traffic away from the busy railroad tracks.
This photo, taken in the 1920s near the Canadian Pacific dock, shows two large ships, roads, warehouses, and railroad tracks.
![]() Previously identified as Lenora Street Dock, later (from 1944) Pier 64, but that seems to be wrong. This looks a lot more likely to be Bell Street Wharf, later Pier 66. Compare File:Central Pier 1, Seattle, 1914.jpg (thumbnailed here), which is definitely Bell Street Wharf under construction. Dock to the left says "W.F. Jahn Co." That was then Pier 11-B (File:Seattle - Railroad Avenue, 1925 (39714172783).jpg at right for comparison), believed to be the Lenora Street Dock, later Pier 65. |
