Description
English: Seaweed and sand Idyllic, white beaches are more frequent in this area; two more can be seen on the distant shore of Finish Island. The sand is a product of weathering and glacial erosion of the abundant granite bedrock which reaches all the way to Galway City. There is also a great deal of seaweed cast up after a spell of very rough weather. In hard times in the past, soils were improved or created by piling sand and seaweed on the rocky fields with their thin peats. As the seaweed rotted, a fertile soil was created or deepened. The dramatic sky is an approaching thunderstorm, giving cause for concern in losing an afternoon's geographing!
