DescriptionSeen from HMS Inivicta, HMS Canterbury and landing craft on an exercise in 1943 IWM A 19063.jpg |
English: HMS Canterbury and landing craft during the great Channel exercise, seen from HMS Invicta on 9 September 1943.
The Allied Armada sailed unmolested during an exercise at sea in the English channel. Allied land, sea, and air forces completed a major-scale 24 hours exercise (Operation Starkey) in the English channel without interference from the enemy. The great armada sailed to within 10 miles of the french coast. Allied bombers and fighters supporting the operation made over 300 sorties, with negligible enemy opposition.
