Summary

edit

The Battle of Seminara (1495). This illustration, by an unknown nineteenth century artist, depicts a highlight of the battle -- nobleman Juan de Altavilla (right foreground, with shield) defends Ferdinand II of Aragon of Naples (behind Altavista, on dying white horse) from the French troops closing in on him. He will eventually give his horse to Ferdinand, and fight to the death delaying his pursuers. Ferdinand escaped to triumph in the campaign, only to die in 1496.
