DescriptionSentinel Pass - Larch Valley (15809969418).jpg |
Here we are at Sentinel Pass between Mount Temple and Pinnacle Mountain looking at some of the peaks of The Valley of the Ten Peaks seen from Moraine Lake, each of them are 10,000ft+ (3000m+) in elevation. We came early enough to get a parking spot at Moraine Lake and there wasn't too much of a crowd and there's still some morning fog lingering by the lake. Around late September, many people come to visit Larch Valley to see the fantastic golden larches. They are coniferous, but are deciduous and will shed its needles in the Fall. You can probably use Sentinel Pass as a pass and get to Paradise Valley, but then you'll have a much longer hike back to the car at Moraine Lake. We decided to stop and have lunch at the pass here and went back the way we came. On the way back, we encountered two bus tours of elderly Japanese tourists. They were making good time up to the pass! We were well impressed, I'd peg each of them at 80+. I sure hope I can still be at it when I'm 80. |
