UNESCO World Heritage, Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty Daebinmyo Tomb Daebinmyo Tomb is the tomb of Lady Jang(1659-1701), a royal concubine of King Sukjong(1661-1720, crowned 1674-1720), the 19th king of the Joseon Dynasty. She was promoted to queen consort and kept the position for some years, but was later deposed. She first entered the royal court as a court lady and became a royal concubine of King Sukjong in 1686 (the 12th year of King Sukjong). In 1688 (the 14th year of King Sukjong), she gave birth to Yi Yun, who was the first son of King Sukjong and became King Gyeongjong later. Afterward, she was entitled to "Huibin", the highest rank among royal concubines, then again elevated to the position of queen after Queen Inhyeon was deposed. But King Sukjong regretted his decision, brought Queen Inhyeon to be the queen again and demoted Lady Jang to the rank of Huibin. In 1701 (the 27th year of King Sukjong), Lady Jang died at the age of 43 by taking posion as the punishment for making a false accusation toward Queen Inhyeon. She was given the posthumous title "Oksanbudaebin" when her son cecame the king. King Gyeongjong also named her mother's tomb "Daevinmyo." Daebinmyo Tomb was originally located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, but moved to the current place in June, 1969.
