Myeongneung Royal Tomb

Myeongneung Royal Tomb is a tomb site where King Sukjong(1661-1720, crowned 1674-1720), the 19th king of the Joseon Dynasty, his second wife Queen Inhyeon(1687-1757) of the Min clan and his third wife Queen Inwon(1687-1757) of the Kim clan are buried. The mounds of King Sukjong and Queen Inhyeon are behind Jeongjagak Shrine, while the mound of Queen Inwon is on the left behind Jeongjagak Shrine. Queen Inwon was deposed due to a dispute over the appointment of the crown prince with Lady Jang. Later, she was brought back to the palace and reinstated as the queen consort. Following the will of King Sukjong, who avoided extravagance, the stone figures at Myeongneung Royal Tomb were reduced and stone lanterns were simplified from an octagonal shape to a square shape.
