Description

One of the interesting assignments I had in December 1945 was documenting Japanese drug caches around Seoul. I worked with Ralph Oyler, a veteran Treasury Department drug agent whose hometown was Lithopolis, Ohio. He told me this was the largest quantity of drugs he'd found during his long career. We drove around in a 1938 Cevrolet that had a right hand steering wheel.

As I recall, the Japanese had used drugs to subdue Koreans during the occupation. I think it might be opium in the photo.

I welcome any information on drugs used by the Japanese during that period.

Recently,I discovered I'd kept a negative from the assignment.
