| Description |
Wood shabti of Pharaoh Seti I, created in Egypt about 1294 to 1279 BC. Found in Valley of the Kings, Thebes. Shabti were funerary figurines placed in a tomb. Should the deceased be called upon to do manual labor in the afterlife, the deceased could call upon the shabti to do the work for them. Vast numbers of shabti would be created for a pharaoh, or nobleman. Shabti were inscribed with the deceased's name, and the phrase "I am here and will come wherever you bid me." Shabti also often had quotations from the sixth chapter of the Book of the Dead written on them. |
