Description
English: The Avon River on my walk around the city March 17, 2014 Christchurch New Zealand.

This is part of the Watermark’ and was the first section of Te Papa Ōtākaro to open. This early development site spans the river’s true left bank between Antigua Boatsheds and Montreal Street and provides a glimpse of how other River Precinct elements could look. Stemming from over 100,000 community suggestions via the ‘Share an Idea’ campaign, ‘Watermark’ aims to deliver on aspirations for a ‘Green City’ and align with the broad design principles of Te Papa Ōtākaro:

The construction of Watermark involved a slight narrowing of the river, with landscaping and re-contouring to shape the new space. Walkways and seating areas have been improved, while boardwalks, new street furniture, and lighting have been added. Some trees were pruned to improve the canopy, though no large trees have been removed.
