Description

Sheetwash erosion channels on a marine beach in Florida, USA. (December 2012)

Orientation: landward is to the lower right & seaward is to the upper left.

At right is a backbeach washover channel, in which water that washed over the beach during a then-recent storm event ponded temporarily and eventually drained. From near-upper right to lower left in the photo is a series of small erosion channels formed by washover water entering the backbeach channel. The winding trails at right and lower right were made by Donax variabilis bivalves - variable coquina clams.

Locality: marine beach in the far-southern part of the western shoreline of Cayo Costa Island, southwestern Florida, USA
