Summary
editDescriptionShepherd's Bush Empire - geograph.org.uk - 1756807.jpg |
English: Shepherd's Bush Empire Built in 1903 for impresario Oswald Stoll and designed by theatre architect Frank Matcham. The first performers at the new theatre were The Fred Karno Troupe incl. Charlie Chaplin (1906). The Empire staged music-hall entertainments, such as variety performances and revues, until the early 1950s. In 1953 it was sold to the BBC, which put it to use as a television studiotheatre, renaming it the BBC Television Theatre. This use ceased in 1991 and it is now a music venue known as the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. |
