| Description |
English: Sherman Hall, Dedham, Essex, 7 October 2006. The house has an early Georgian frontage of 1735 grafted onto a mediaeval building. It was the home of the Sherman family, a descendent of which was William Tecumseh Sherman, the famous Union General of the American Civil War. In 1628 a group of Dissenters left Dedham for the Massachusetts Bay Colony and founded the township of Dedham there. Several prominent American families can trace their ancestry from these early settlers. |
