editDescriptionShetland Mouse-ear (Cerastium nigrescens) - geograph.org.uk - 722979.jpg |
English: Shetland Mouse-ear (Cerastium nigrescens) Known more commonly in Shetland as Edmondston's Chickweed, it was discovered by the botanist Thomas Edmondston in the 1830s and the discovery published when he was still only aged 12. His promising biological career was cut short when he was accidentally killed on an expedition in South America, aged 21. Shetland Mouse-ear is now recognised as a Shetland endemic (found nowhere else in the world) following recent taxonomic decisions. |
