English: Shipley Hill south side Some magnificent trees, including beech, oak, sycamore and rowan, form the woodland on Shipley Hill. Some of the beeches are over 200 years old and have become diseased & thus had to be felled. See 277771 for further information. Shipley Hill is part of Shipley Country Park. The park was opened in 1976 and has 600 acres of varied landscape. During the 18th Century it was developed as a country estate and coal mining centre by the influential Miller-Mundy family. There are over 18 miles of footpaths and bridleways, a visitor centre, gift shop, coffee shop, toddlers play area, adventure playground, picnic site and access-for-all facilities. It is adjacent to the American Adventure theme park. |
