| Description |
English: Shiprock — A calming early morning shot of Shiprock found on the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, NM. Shiprock is known by geologists as a volcanic plug. A volcanic plug is formed when magma within an active volcano hardens within a vent. The hardened magma tends to be more resistant to weathering and erosion. As time passes and the volcano becomes inactive and deeply eroded, the remaining hardened magma is left standing. This particular land feature stands 1,583 feet high!
