Wreck of a ship on Clonmass Bay. While here I got talking to a local man who explained that a ship was wrecked a few years ago. Apparently a Scandanavian gentleman purchased a boat with the idea of commercially farming mussels in the Sheephaven Bay area. He decided to moor the boat in Clonmass Bay over winter but a huge winter storm rolled in and destroyed the vessel - apparently in winter it is not unusual for waves to break over the top of Little Isle 899867 !!. Sections of boat are still seen at low tide in the bay. I don't know if this section of hull has any connection or is an earlier wreck. Further information or clarification of this story welcomed. |
