English: Shoes on a string Something I'd been curious about on several visits to Shoreditch by Underground was a collection of shoes hanging from a phone cable leading to Shoreditch Underground station. The shoes seemed to be a different collection each time I visited but nonetheless they were always there.
Taken on 9th June 2006, the day Shoreditch London Underground station closed to public use for the last time, the mystery was revealed. They were the er, artistic work of the gentleman seen in the picture (who for most of the afternoon had a can of lager permanently in his hand). He wanted payment for having his picture taken - currency was negotiable - cash, lager or a pair of shoes. I managed to escape without paying in any form of his negotiable currency. |
