Summary
editDescriptionShopping District Fairbanks Alaska.jpg |
English: Western portion of the Johansen (also East Fairbanks) Retail Area, the main shopping area in Fairbanks, Alaska. This particular development was originally called the Aurora Center; it has also been known by other formal names, but is mostly known and recognized by the individual retailers who occupy the buildings' spaces. Originally part of the land holdings of the dairy farming Bentley family, the ownership of the land was placed into a trust in 1969. When the trust expired in the early 21st century, the land was rapidly developed, starting with The Home Depot, followed by Walmart and Lowe's, plus numerous other smaller buildings, including two hotels (with a third under construction in 2016). The major retailers are, from left (east to west): Lowe's, Sportsman's Warehouse, Barnes & Noble, Petco, Famous Footwear, Old Navy and Sports Authority. GameStop occupies one of the smaller spaces between B&N and Petco; various local businesses have come and go in the other small spaces. |
