| Description |
English: Shore near Cardross. The area of sand and mud shown in the foreground of this photograph is only exposed near low tide.
As for the background, a couple of distant beacons are visible there; although perspective might give the opposite impression, both of them are located closer to this shore of the River Clyde than to the other side. The slightly more prominent beacon of the two, located towards the left-hand edge of the image, stands on Pillar Bank, and is about 750 metres from the photographer's position. The other beacon, located a little right of centre in this image, is about 1.2 km away. In fact, about a third of the way from that beacon to the right-hand edge of the photo, there is a third beacon, 1.6 km away, but it is at the limit of visibility in this image. All three are shown on the 1:25000 OS map. The three beacons lie in a straight line, marking the limits of the River Clyde Trust. Also on that line is a large marker standing on the shore near Cardross: 1077854. If there was a corresponding marker on the southern shore of the Clyde, it would be in the vicinity of Newark Castle; however, there does not appear to be any such marker in that area. |
