Description
English: Shropshire Union Canal at Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire. The Shropshire Union Canal was opened in 1835 as the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal, engineered by Thomas Telford. The picture shows the scene from Wheaton Aston Lock. The black pillar in the foreground is a water point for boats. The brick building further away by the tow-path is a boaters' sanitary station. The white building past the boats is The Hartley Arms, by Tavern Bridge.
