| Description |
English: Shropshire Union Canal at Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire. The canal was quite a late addition to the network. Formerly called the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal it was opened in 1835 at a time when railways were making serious inroads into the canal companies' businesses.
This picture was taken from Dirty Lane Bridge, looking south-east towards Tavern Bridge. Good visitor moorings have been provided here and beyond the bridge towards the lock. |
