English: Shropshire Union Canal north of Brewood, Staffordshire. The aqueduct crossing Watling Street (A5) is beyond the large tree on the right.
The canal was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1835. He attempted to minimise the distance by adopting straight lines wherever possible, so his canal includes many long embankments and cuttings. |
