Summary edit

Description
English: Shropshire Union Canal north of Brewood, Staffordshire. The aqueduct crossing Watling Street (A5) is beyond the large tree on the right. The profusion of white blossom is provided by hawthorn and cow parsley. The canal was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1835. He attempted to minimise the distance by adopting straight lines wherever possible, so his canal included many long embankments and cuttings and as few locks as practical.
